Labradorite – Irina Blue / Extra Blue Ukraine
A premium anorthosite with phenomenal blue labradorescence — an optical effect produced by the diffraction of light across the thin-layered crystalline structures of the rock. Irina Blue / Extra Blue Ukraine occupies a category of its own in the aesthetic spectrum. It has a black base with no external decoration whatsoever. Yet at a certain angle to the light source, the entire surface ignites with vivid blue and azure: large labradorite crystals scatter light in a characteristic iridescence. This effect shifts with every step of the observer. No synthetic material can reproduce this natural phenomenon.
The intensity of the iridescence depends on the quality of the block: in the Extra Blue variety, the blue component occupies a larger area of the surface and is more vivid — it is this variant that is most highly prized in memorial and prestige architectural projects. In its polished state, the black ground becomes absolute and profound, and the blue flashes gain further intensity from the mirror surface. In flamed execution, the ground becomes dark grey, and the iridescence softens slightly, acquiring a more “earthly”, material quality — less theatrical, but no less expressive.
Density 2,800 kg/m³ and water absorption 0.40 %; compressive strength of 150 MPa ensures reliability in monumental constructions. Indispensable for memorial monuments, prestige façades, countertops and architectural accents where natural spectacle is the primary design value.
